The Samsung 990 PRO series of SSDs uses Samsung’s latest V-NAND and a new proprietary controller to deliver the highest speed currently available with the PCIe 4.0 interface. Sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and 6,900 MB/s, respectively, and random read and write speeds of up to 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS, respectively. With up to 55% better random performance compared to the 980 PRO, the 990 PRO is perfect for heavy gaming as well as creative and productivity tasks.
Samsung’s newly designed controller adopts a low-power architecture, and compared to the 980 PRO, the energy efficiency of the SSD is significantly improved by 50%. Additionally, the 990 PRO features nickel coating on the controller and heatsink tabs on the drivers for reliable thermal management. Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard technology further ensures that the drive’s temperature remains within an optimal range.
The 990 PRO series SSDs provide three capacity options of 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB, of which 1TB and 2TB will be available globally from October this year, and the 4TB capacity version will be launched next year.
